When someone types into Google that they are looking for something (such as a florist, café or perhaps a certain type of shop) then they are going to also be typing in a location for that place. Not only that, but if they are using a location search then chances are that they will be doing it on their mobile. 

Knowing this, Google will ensure that when people search for a business that is near to them, they are going to be shown those websites which are mobile-friendly before any other websites. A place where you are going to want to be.

For many businesses there is a need to over-complicate their website. Sure, your website should have everything that your customers need on it, but you should try to keep it relatively simple. A mobile first website is going to be designed to be as simple (yet effective) as possible. 

This means that you are going to need to take the time to think about what things are vital that you have on there and what things could just be confusing your customers rather than giving them the information that they need.
